The Spit of Vasilievsky Island is considered one of the best architectural ensembles in the world. And rightfully so!

In the 18th century, the confluence of the Bolshaya Neva and Malaya Neva rivers was deserted. This is a Model of St. Petersburg of the 18th century in the Admiral shopping and entertainment complex near the Admiralteyskaya metro station. On the left - the buildings of 12 colleges, in the front - the Kunstkamera, in the background - the market and port buildings. On holidays, rostral columns flare up with gas torches, but only on the most significant holidays of the year.

At the foot of the columns there are 4 statues, supposedly symbolizing the great Russian rivers - Neva, Dvina, Dnieper and Volga. This is a relatively recent invention, Thomas de Thomon himself wrote: "The base of each column is decorated with huge figures that symbolize the deities of the sea and commerce." The rostral columns have never been lighthouses either, and before the advent of electric lighting they served as lanterns. The tradition of lighting fires on them for the holidays was introduced in 1957.
