The building of the former Alexandrinsky women`s shelter, now the N.I. Pirogov clinic. built in 1897 - 1899 by the project of the architect Karl Karlovich Schmidt A large elegant building, faced yellow and red bricks, it is a work of late eclecticism, combining the "brick style" and elements of the neo-Gothic.
Evangelical parishes of St. Petersburg wished to build a shelter for women. all from private individuals - pastor K. Freifeld and Dr. K. G. Wiedemann. Funds for the construction were collected by parishioners. The well-known industrialists L. E. Koenig, E. L. Nobel and K. B. Siegel were involved in the arrangement of the orphanage.
