Nearby village Uchkuevka under Sevastopol the rests of 16th and 24th coastal artillery batteries.
Having seen after the journey a certain concrete construction, I have decided that it is the rests of any PILLBOX of the Second World War. It has in actual fact appeared that the rests of structures — a so-called fort of Hrulyova (Germans named its fort «Shishkov», under the name of not remained farm which was on this place). These two batteries covering Sevastopol from the north, have started to build in 1905, and have finished only by 1912.
16th battery.
The basis of a 254-millimetric artillery piece of 16th coastal battery.
Entrance in cellars of ammunition. For understanding of the sizes, nearby there is one of our command of anonymous historians.
Entrance in cellars of ammunition
Cellar of ammunition. To the right and on the left corridors to the next cellars of other cannons leave. As deep into and downwards. A small lamp with itself was not and to investigate transitions there was no possibility.
Entrance in cellars of ammunition, a view from within. The thickness of lateral walls reaches 1,5 metres.
Basis of the cannon (?) of smaller calibre.
Roof of artillery cellars reached 2,4 metres at thickness. An aperture (a periscope?) it is covered by a modern concrete plate, and that to fall highly and painfully.
Basis of a 254-millimetric artillery piece.
Superstructure of the battery unknown to me of appointment. A periscope? Or the observation post (?)
is faster
Basis, the rest of a heel of a tower. Cannons looked towards the sea. From above are opened, and from a bay are protected by thick concrete and a solid embankment.
Dome of the battery church. What is such I has guessed only having gone down downwards.
Basis of a 254-millimetric artillery piece.
PILLBOX of times Second World War.
Most likely, is command point and the rest of an observant tower.
16th artillery coastal battery. In a shot sunbathes man which has prompted that the battery is constructed in 1903 (actually in 1912 and to be under construction the beginnings in 1905). Originally I incorrectly dated years of construction, having assumed that all structures of times WW II.
Basis of a 254-millimetric artillery piece, the bottom view.
Left part of the central traverse.
Central traverse of 16th battery with niches for installation of a board with the name and battery icons. What beauty! The same defensive works and as pleasantly looks. In general, I have solved that it's battery church. Possibly, in the middle really there was battery chapel.
Right part of the central traverse.
Plaster has inside remained (how much it probably).
Filled up entrance in cellars of ammunition, a kind from within.
Cellar of ammunition.
Passes in a cellar.
16th artillery coastal battery. The central traverse and the basis of the main calibre cannon.
the Panorama of 16th coastal battery.
Nearby settles down similar 24th artillery coastal battery.
View from 24th artillery coastal battery.
Command point of 24th artillery coastal battery. I can be mistaken.
Ventilating aperture.
Top plate of a cellar of ammunition and, likely, a ventilating aperture.
Rest unknown in hundred metres from batteries.
View from batteries on the road Sevastopol — Simferopol.
Entrance index in Sevastopol. A reference point if will decide to find the battery (between Uchkuevkoj and Ljubimovkoj, on the right on road from Sevastopol; after Ekaterina's mile and the index of entrance to a city). Co-ordinates: 44.655323, 33.549533 and 44.653440, 33.546682
These batteries of all once participated in operations. During the First World War cannons shooting on the German linear cruiser «Geben» which attacking Sevastopol in October, 1914 (damages has received both a cruiser, and one cannon of 16th battery). Crimea
At the Second World War defensive workshave been spent on drink by proletariat have become unfit for use, but were used by infantry of Red Army as a strong point. Germans have qualitatively pressed batteries to what numerous traces of shells and splinters on walls of constructions of batteries testify. During German storm all defenders of batteries were destroyed.
Constructions of these two batteries have very much impressed me. They it is considerable larger than 35th battery on cape Chersonese of which have made a memorial complex.
And it is literally nearby, at settlement Ljubimovka, there are restored efficient towers of legendary 30th artillery battery with two triple 305-millimetric (!) cannons. It is a pity that I have not found out them and did not know about their existence (however as did not know and about these two batteries).
The rests of 16th and 24th coastal batteries — one of the most picturesque and interesting fortification constructions in Crimea. Times of the last century, certainly. The Genoa fortresses in Crimea — a special pearl.
