Temple of St. Sergius of Radonezh, Tula, Zarechensky Square.
The Church of St.Sergius was built at the orphanage named after Metropolitan Sergius at the expense of Metropolitan Sergius of Moscow and Kolomna (Lyapidevsky), who was born in Zarechye, in Construction began in 1895, painting was completed in 1901 by master N. Safonov. The construction was supervised by Archpriest Mikhail Aleksandrovich Rozhdestvensky, was the first rector, was buried inside the church on the north side. 30 boys, a parish school, a vocational school, a hospital for the poor.
Closed in 1918 and soon reopened as a parish and I. Closed for good in 1935. The bell tower is destroyed. In Soviet times, there were tobacco and military warehouses here.
In 1980, the temple was under threat of destruction - it was located on the central thoroughfare of the city, along which the Olympic flame was to be carried. The city authorities decided that the abandoned church might cause bewilderment among foreign guests and thought about demolition, but after careful calculation they found out that redecorating the facade would be cheaper.
ROC returned to 1991 year. It is a cultural and historical monument of regional significance.
According to the old description: “It is a stone building, like a ship, with the same bell tower. Land at this church: the 1st is allocated by the city over 3000 sq. soot .; The second - at a distance of three versts from the city, donated by the archpriest of this church, Mikhail Alexandrovich Rozhdestvensky, after his death, 74 tithes with a manor and a brick factory in favor of the orphanage of Metropolitan Sergius; 3rd - the same archpriest and for the same subject donated 124 dessiatines to the forest, as well as a two-storey house in Nikolo-Rzhavsky lane.
