Priozersk (Old Russian Korela, Swedish Kexholm, Finnish Käkisalmi, Karelian Karjala or Kägöisalmi) is a city in Russia, the administrative center of the Priozersk district of the Leningrad region, the center of the Priozersk urban settlement.
r nThe city is located on the Karelian Isthmus, at the confluence of the northern branch of the Vuoksa River into Lake Ladoga. Railway station on the line St. Petersburg - Hiitola. 145 km from St. Petersburg. R n

r nPriozersk is one of the oldest cities in Russia, first mentioned in the chronicles under 1143 as the city of Korela.
r nThe city Korela was founded by Novgorodians in the XI-XII centuries on the site of an old Karelian settlement. The fortified city, which became a powerful outpost of Novgorod on the Karelian Isthmus, held back the Swedish aggression.
