Trip to Spain: the Valley of the Fallen

15 photo with description
In 60 km from Madrid there is a remarkable memorial — the Valley of the Fallen, built by the decree Franco in memory of victims in civil war in Spain. Complex visiting was included into our obligatory program — is hefty it would be desirable to look at a huge cross (which has completely justified expectations).

The cross is seen from many kilometres and is visible from a road.

Monolithic stone columns
Approximately halfway from entrance to a complex along road there are the ancient monolithic columns which have been cut down in XV century. Columns are called Juanelos, transfer I, unfortunately do not know.

Without reaching several honeycombs of metres to an entrance to the memorial we have left the car and further go by foot. A season yet the most tourist, but some buses with tourists were on parking.

Directly under a cross there is an entrance in a complex which represents huge cutting down in a rock, coming to an end with a tomb Franco and small basilica.

Meditating man
From the memorial the remarkable view opens and on the brink was sitting meditating man.

From the opposite side there is the Benedictine monastery which Franco has instructed to attend the memorial and basilica.

In a memorial it is forbidden to photograph not to anger spirits of ancestors. And it is a pity, inside though and it is dark, but I could extend photo. And a tomb Franco simple to a disgrace: simply marble slab on a floor.

The complex both outside, and inside, makes delightful impression — both dimensions of the cross and the sizes of huge development (gallery of 88 metres at length + church approximately 40х40х40 metres). Not it is for nothing on building 18 years have left.

It is perceived as a majestic building, better than Poklonnaja mountain in Moscow.
