Monument to Peter I on Pribaltiyskaya Square, opened September 25 2006 on the square near the Pribaltiyskaya Hotel. Sculptor Z. K. Tsereteli, architects F. K. Romanovsky, A. P. Chernov. Interestingly, Zurab Tsereteli proposed to erect a monument at the choice of Smolny on Troitskaya Square, Zayachy Island, the entrance to the Birzhevaya Bridge or Petrovskaya The public council under the governor considered that the monument would not fit into the surrounding landscape, and suggested that the author install it on the Pulkovo Heights or in the Oreshek fortress. The final choice - almost in the center of the city and near the Gulf of Finland - obviously suited everyone.
